Introduction:

All organisms consist of basic units of life called cells. The discovery of cells was first made by Robert Hooke who observed that the cells of cork (a dead plant tissue) had small compartments when looked at under a microscope. He gave the name cells to these compartments as he thought they looked similar to small rooms (or cellular).
