Chapter 3, Problem 3.42P

An undamped driven harmonic oscillator satisfies the equation of motion m(d2x/dt2+ ω02x) = F(t). The driving force F(t) = F0 sin(ωt) is switched on at t= 0. (a) Find x(t) for t > 0 for the initial conditions x = 0 and v = 0 at t = 0. (b) Find x(t) for ω = ω0 by taking the limit ωω0 in your result for part (a). Sketch your result for x(t). Hint: In part (a) look for a particular solution of the differential equation of the form x = A sin(ωt) and determine A. Add the solution of the homogeneous equation to this to obtain the general solution of the inhomogeneous equation.

A 2.0 kg mass attached to a 24.0 N/m massless spring is driven by an external force F=F0 cos ((2)(pi)(t))  where F0= 12.0 N. Assuming that the damping coefficient b nis so small that it can be neglected, find a) the period of the oscillator, and b) the amplitude of its motion.
At what positions is the speed of a simple harmonic oscillator half its maximum? That is, what values of x / X give v = ±vmax / 2 , where X is the amplitude of the motion?
A spring with constant k = 5 N/m hanging from the ceiling is placed at its lower end with an object of 1 N, which causes it to remain in equilibrium. The weight is then pulled 0.5 m above the equilibrium position.and is released with no initial velocity. There is no damping force acting on the system. SI x(t) represents the displacement of the weight, in meters, from the equilibrium point and taking upwards as thepositive direction, an equation that describes the position of the weight as a function of time t (in seconds) is:If necessary, use the gravity constant g as g = 9.8 m/s2 Possible answer in the images.
