To draw:
The structure of an antibody.
Introduction:
The activated B cells divide rapidly and differentiate into plasma cells. Plasma cells are responsible for the production of antibodies. Antibodies are a globular protein that contains plasma proteins and gamma globin fraction.
To determine:
The part of the antibody that binds to the antigens.
Introduction:
The structure of an antibody molecule is similar to Y shaped structure. An antibody is comprised of two identical light chains, two identical heavy chains.
To explain:
Why each antibody binds only to one or a few specific antigens.
Introduction:
An antibody is comprised of two identical light chains, two identical heavy chains. The end of each arm of heavy and light chain consists of variable region which provides a site for antigen binding.

- Illustrate the structure of an antibody molecule. Label the constant and variable regions, the Fc and Fab parts, and the heavy and light chains.arrow_forwardDiagram an antibody and list the functions for each section of the antibody. Which part of an antibody is “specific” to a certain antigen (make a simple, labeled drawing to illustrate your answer)?arrow_forwardDescribe the typical shape and structure of an antibody. Distinguish between antibodies and antigens. Be able to draw an antibody and label the variable (antigen-binding) region and the control region. What results in the specificity of an antibody (i.e. one antibody can bind only one particular antigen)? Which type of lymphocyte makes antibodies?arrow_forward
- Illustrate the Antibody Structure ?arrow_forwardDraw a well-labelled diagram of an antibody molecule.arrow_forwardDraw a schematic diagram of a typical IgG molecule and label each of the following parts: H chains, L chains, intrachain disulfide bonds, hinge, Fab, Fc, and all the domains. Indicate which domains are involved in antigen binding.arrow_forward
