Question
Chapter 39.3, Problem 1CC
Summary Introduction
To analyze:
The surge in blood concentration of FSH and LH in human males.
Introduction:
When a human male attains puberty or sexual maturity, his hypothalamus begins producing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in high amount. GnRH in turn stimulates pituitary gland to produce follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH and LH play important role in development of male gonads.

Contrast the effects of FSH and LH.
If a castrated male rat was injected with testosterone over several weeks, why would his prostate increase in size but his testes decrease in size? What would you expect to happen to his circulating levels of LH? What would happen to his body weight?
Women with inadequate secretion of GnRH are often treated for theirinfertility with drugs that mimic the action of this hormone. Why?
