The standard enthalpy of formation of NH3(g) needs to be calculated at a temperature of 450 K.

Concept Introduction:

The standard enthalpy change for a reaction ΔH0 is given in terms of the difference in the standard enthalpy of formation of the products and that of reactants.

i.e. ΔH0 = npΔHf0(products) - nrΔHf0(reactants)  ------(1)

Here, np and nr are the number of moles of the products and reactants

The enthalpy change of reaction attemperature T1 is related to the enthalpy of the reaction at a different temperature T2 by the following equation:

  ΔHR0(T2) = ΔHR0(T1) +  T 1 T 2 ΔCpdT ------(2)where ΔCp=Cp(products)Cp(reactants) i.e. the difference in the heatcapacities of the products and reactants
