Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
The electronic configuration of Aluminium atom is to be written.
Concept Introduction:
An arrangement of electrons in orbits and sub orbits is called electronic configuration.
Valence electrons are those in the outermost shell of an atom.
The neutral atom has equal number of protons and electrons. Gaining or loosing of electrons of an atom forms ion.
Negative charged ions are formed by the gaining one or more electrons and it has more electrons than protons.
Positive charged ions are formed by losing one or more electrons and it has more protons than electrons.

- What is a valence electron?arrow_forwardd. The energy required to separate the ions in the calcium carbonate crystal lattice into individual calcium and carbonate ions as represented in the table below is known as the lattice energy. As shown in the table, the lattice energy of magnesium carbonate is more than the lattice energy of calcium carbonate. Explain why in terms of periodic properties and Coulomb's law.arrow_forwardWhat model of the atom views an electron as a cloud of negative charge shaving certain geometrical shapearrow_forward
- Before the experiment conducted by Ernest Rutherford, how didmany scientists envision the structure of an atom?arrow_forwardHow is energy being transferred into the atoms to excite electrons being done in?arrow_forwardHow would I show transferred electrons? show ions with their charge? How would I find the chemical formulaarrow_forward
- What is electrostatic force? Use your understanding of electrostatic force and how the number of protons and electrons differ in atoms to explain the observed change in atomic size.arrow_forwardDescribe atomic structure; name and describe the parts of atoms, and their arrangement/location and chargearrow_forwardRubidium and bromine atoms are depicted at right. (a) What monatomic ions do they form? (b) What electronic feature characterizes this pair of ions, and which noble gas are they related to? (c) Which pair best represents the relative ionic sizes?arrow_forward
