Summary Introduction

To draw: Lewis dot structure of silicon (Si).

Introduction: “ Every element has smallest unit of matter that retains the properties of an element”. This smallest unit is called atom. There are three subatomic particles of an atom. These are electrons, protons, and neutrons. Proton and neutron are present in the central part of an atom called nucleus. The electrons revolve around the nucleus in different electronic shells that can be drawn in form of electron distribution diagram as given in fig. 1(a) and fig. 2(a). The electrons present in outermost shell are called valence electrons that can be drawn in dotted form as Lewis dot structure of an atom, as given in fig.1 (b) and fig.2 (b).

Summary Introduction

To interpret: The properties of silicon that makes it suitable for silicon based life.

Some scientists have speculated that life forms elsewhere in the universe could be based on silicon, rather than carbon. What properties does silicon share with carbon that makes this more likely than say aluminum-based life or neon-based life?
Some scientists propose that Silicon might be a suitable alternative to Carbon as the basicatom that forms the “backbone of life”. Why is this?
pdates rades mbers Stanley Miller and Harold Urey created an experiment that simulated conditions on early Earth. Building on the results from this experiment, scientists decide to test the effect of varying the initial amount of NH3 on monomer formation. They set up the same simulation with the exception of starting with three different concentrations of NH3. The amounts of H2 and CH4 are kept constant in each treatment. They run five simulations per NH3 concentration, as well as five simulations that only have H2 and CH4.
