Concept introduction: Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) are the protein receptors expressed by the cells of innate immune system. These receptors primarily help to recognize molecules typical for the pathogens. There are two major classes of PRRs, namely pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs).
