This concept, while personal in nature, is an essential component of organizational development and leadership development work. Wk 5 Discussion Forum: Trends in Leadership There are currently four perspectives on ambidexterity (structural, contextual, temporal, and as a form of leadership). The article on the ambidextrous organization confronts the oldest issue of this problem: How to exploit core competencies and also explore for innovation as a form of structure. A traditional way of looking at this problem is to allocate exploitation to operations and exploration to R&D. Recent developments though point out that the "structural ambidexterity" needs to be built throughout a company via company culture. (See Birkenshaw & Gibson) In today's economy, though, many companies may need to shift between exploitation and exploration at different points in life cycles and as a dynamic capability. For example, a company in a start-up phase may emphasize an…arrow_forward

Organizational commitment refers to the degree of loyalty employees feel toward an organization (Randall 2023). In the field of industrial and organizational psychology, it is also known as the connection or attachment employees have with their organization. Organizational commitment and employee engagement are similar, but differ in one key way. Employees who are committed to their organization feel connected and attached, while engaged employees have extrinsic and intrinsic factors keeping them motivated to work. Employees can be committed to the organization and still be mediocre performers. Organizational commitment plays a role in many different aspects of managing people. It influences productivity, employee satisfaction, turnover, performance, culture, employee relations, and many other components of an organization (Randall 2023).
