Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
The relative strengths of Bronsted bases
Concept Introduction:
A proton is transferred between two molecules, in which one of them is proton acceptor and the other one is proton donor. The proton donor is known as “Bronsted Acid” and the proton acceptor is known as “Bronsted Base”.
Weak Base:
A base dissociates partially into its ions in aqueous solution or water is called “weak base”.
Strong Acid:
A base dissociates completely into its ions in aqueous solution or water is called “strong base”.
(b)
Interpretation:
Concept Introduction:
Refer part (a)
(c)
Interpretation:
Ranking of species in (a) or (b) as Lewis bases, has to be explained.
