- Zena Technology sells arc computer printers for $55 per unit. Unit product costs are: A special order to purchase 15,000 arc printers has recently been received from another company and Zena has idle capacity to fill the order. Zena will incur an additional $2 per printer for additional labor costs due to a slight modification the buyer wants made to the original product. One-third of the manufacturing overhead costs is fixed and will be incurred no matter how many units are produced. When negotiating the price, what is the minimum selling price that Zena should accept for this special order?arrow_forwardRemarkable Enterprises requires four units of part A for every unit of Al that it produces. Currently, part A is made by Remarkable, with these per-unit costs in a month when 4,000 units were produced: Variable manufacturing overhead is applied at $1.60 per unit. The other $0.50 of overhead consists of allocated fixed costs. Remarkable will need 8,000 units of part A for the next years production. Altoona Corporation has offered to supply 8,000 units of part A at a price of $8.00 per unit. If Remarkable accepts the offer, all of the variable costs and $2,000 of the fixed costs will be avoided. - Oat Treats manufactures various types of cereal bars featuring oats. Simmons Cereal Company has approached Oat Treats with a proposal to sell the company its top selling oat cereal bar at a price of $27,500 for 20,000 bars. The costs shown are associated with production of 20,000 oat bars currently. The manufacturing overhead consists of $3,000 of variable costs with the balance being allocated to fixed costs. Should Oat Treats make or buy the oat bars?arrow_forwardBolger and Co. manufactures large gaskets for the turbine industry. Bolgers per-unit sales price and variable costs for the current year are as follows: Bolgers total fixed costs aggregate to 360,000. Bolgers labor agreement is expiring at the end of the year, and management is concerned about the effects of a new labor agreement on its break-even point in units. The controller performed a sensitivity analysis to ascertain the estimated effect of a 10-per-unit direct labor increase and a 10,000 reduction in fixed costs. Based on these data, the break-even point would: a. decrease by 1,000 units. b. decrease by 125 units. c. increase by 375 units. d. increase by 500 units.arrow_forwardHatch Manufacturing produces multiple machine parts. The theoretical cycle time for one of its products is 65 minutes per unit. The budgeted conversion costs for the manufacturing cell dedicated to the product are 12,960,000 per year. The total labor minutes available are 1,440,000. During the year, the cell was able to produce 0.6 units of the product per hour. Suppose also that production incentives exist to minimize unit product costs. Required: 1. Compute the theoretical conversion cost per unit. 2. Compute the applied conversion cost per minute (the amount of conversion cost actually assigned to the product). 3. Discuss how this approach to assigning conversion cost can improve delivery time performance. Explain how conversion cost acts as a performance driver for on-time deliveries.arrow_forward
- Carltons Kitchens makes two types of pasta makers: Strands and Shapes. The company expects to manufacture 70,000 units of Strands, which has a per-unit direct material cost of $10 and a per-unit direct labor cost of $60. It also expects to manufacture 30.000 units of Shapes, which has a per-unit material cost of $15 and a per-unit direct labor cost of $40. It is estimated that Strands will use 140,000 machine hours and Shapes will require 60,000 machine hours. Historically, the company has used the traditional allocation method and applied overhead at a rate of $21 per machine hour. It was determined that there were three cost pools, and the overhead for each cost pool is shown: The cost driver for each cost pool and its expected activity is shown: A. What is the per-unit cost for each product under the traditional allocation method? B. What is the per-unit cost for each product under ABC costing?arrow_forwardA company is considering a special order for 1,000 units to be priced at 8.90 (the normal price would be 11.50). The order would require specialized materials costing 4.00 per unit. Direct labor and variable factory overhead would cost 2.15 per unit. Fixed factory overhead is 1.20 per unit. However, the company has excess capacity, and acceptance of the order would not raise total fixed factory overhead. The warehouse, however, would have to add capacity costing 1,300. Which of the following is relevant to the special order? a. 11.50 b. 1.20 c. 7.35 d. 8.90arrow_forwardPreparation of Income Statement: Manufacturing Firm Laworld Inc. manufactures small camping tents. Last year, 200,000 tents were made and sold for 60 each. Each tent includes the following costs: The only selling expenses were a commission of 2 per unit sold and advertising totaling 100,000. Administrative expenses, all fixed, equaled 300,000. There were no beginning or ending finished goods inventories. There were no beginning or ending work-in-process inventories. Required: 1. Calculate the product cost for one tent. Calculate the total product cost for last year. 2. CONCEPTUAL CONNECTION Prepare an income statement for external users. Did you need to prepare a supporting statement of cost of goods manufactured? Explain. 3. CONCEPTUAL CONNECTION Suppose 200,000 tents were produced (and 200,000 sold) but that the company had a beginning finished goods inventory of 10,000 tents produced in the prior year at 40 per unit. The company follows a first-in, first-out policy for its inventory (meaning that the units produced first are sold first for purposes of cost flow). What effect does this have on the income statement? Show the new statement.arrow_forward

The cost of producing 500,000 rolls in the prior year was: At the start of the current year, Cinnamon Depot received a special order for 18,000 rolls to be sold for $1.50 per roll. The company estimates it will incur an additional $1,000 in total fixed costs in order to lease a special machine that forms the rolls in the shape of a heart per the customers request. Each product passes through the sharpening machine area, which is the chief constraint during production. Handsaw blades take 15 minutes on the sharpening machine and have a contribution margin per blade of $15. Table saw blades take 20 minutes on the sharpening machine and have a contribution margin per blade of $35. If it is assumed that Power Corp. has 5,000 hours available on the sharpening machine to service a minimum demand for each product of 4,000 units, how much will profits increase if 200 more hours of machine time can be obtained?arrow_forward
