Concept introduction:
In solvolysis reactions, solvents play role for the breaking of bonds and new bond formation. When the solvent is water, it’s called hydrolysis. Thus, solvolysis is a general term. In most solvolysis reactions, carbocation is formed followed by the attack of the solvent as either nucleophile or base. The substitution reaction takes place at room temperature whereas elimination reaction needs heat.
