a) The bond enthalpy of the F2

ion

The reaction for the formation of 2F is as follows:

The reaction for the formation of F

is as follows:

The reaction for the formation of F2

is as follows:

Add equations (1) and (3)

The bond enthalpy of F2 is 156.9 kJ/mol 

and the bond enthalpy of F2 is 114.0 kJ/mol .

The bond enthalpy of F2 is weaker than the bond enthalpy of F2, because in F2, an extra electron is present, which increases the repulsion between the fluorine atoms.

Therefore, the bond enthalpy of F2 is weaker than the bond enthalpy of F2.
