Concept explainers
(a)
To determine: The way in which decreased water content in spores affect some types of mutations.
Introduction:
Bacterial endospores are formed under unfavorable environmental conditions. Spores have a method to prevent lethal mutation accummulation in their DNA in period of dormancy. Bacterial spores like that of Bacillus subtilis have more potential to resist heat, oxydizing agents and UV radiation which are mutation promotors.
(b)
To determine: The causes of cyclobutane dimmer formation and the reason of some bacterial endospores requiring the mechanism to prevent their formation.
