List the pyrimidine bases, the purine bases, and the base-pairing rules for DNA.

Summary Introduction

To describe: The pyrimidine bases, the purine bases, and the base pairing rules for DNA.

Introduction: When Watson and Crick started their work on DNA; it was already known that organism contains two types of nucleic acids; (i) Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and (ii) Ribonucleic acid (RNA). The nucleic acid is composed of deoxyribose or ribose sugar and a nitrogenous base.

Explanation of Solution

Nucleic acids are composed of deoxyribose sugar and a nitrogenous base. Adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T) or uracil (U) are four types of nitrogenous bases.

These nitrogenous bases are divided into two categories, which are as follows:

  • Pyrimidines:

Cytosine (C), thymine (T), and uracil (U) (found in RNA only).

  • Purines:

    Adenine (A) and guanine (G)...
