Chapter 8.3, Problem 1TQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The use of redundancy of genetic code to establish evolutionary relationships between various species.

Introduction:

Information present in the sequence of a polynucleotide needs to be copied to form the sequence of a polypeptide. The rules by which the information is transferred is called the genetic code. Three nucleotides of mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) codes for a particular amino acid and a set of these three nucleotides is called a codon. A total of 64 codons code for 20 basic amino acids. Out of these 64 codons, 61 codes for specific amino acids whereas 3 do not code for any amino acid and function as stop codons.
