Rain gauge is a meteorological instrument used to measure rainfall in a particular place over a period of time.

Rain gauge has a funnel type device attached to a cylindrical tube to which measuring scale is attached.

When it rains, rain water falls in the funnel type of device and it goes to the measuring tube.

Rainfall in a particular place is equal to the height of water level raised in the measuring tube.

Volume of a liquid is directly proportional to the height of the cylindrical container.

As the volume of rain increases outside, then its volume increases even in the rain gauge also then, the height of the liquid level also increases simultaneously.

So, the rainfall is measured in height or length units they are either centimeters or inches whereas, milliliters or cubic centimeters are the units of volume.

Conclusion
