Interpretation :

The reason for the chemists to invent the unit called mole must be explained.

Concept Introduction :

Mole of a substance is the amount which contains Avogadro’s ( $\text{6}\text{.023}\times {\text{10}}^{\text{23}}$ ) number of species like atoms, molecules, ions, electrons, etc.

Chemists invented the unit called mole to make equality in molecular level.

Explanation of Solution

Mass can’t be used to equalize species in molecular level. For example if same mass of different compounds are taken then number of atoms, molecules etc will not be same. To make them equal a new unit which can be accepted universally is invented by chemists. This is mole. 1 mol of any substance contains equal number of species. 1 mol of Na, K or Ca all have Avogadro’s ( $\text{6}\text{.023}\times {\text{10}}^{\text{23}}$ ) number of atoms. 1 mol of O₂, N₂ and CO₂ all have Avogadro’s ( $\text{6}\text{.023}\times {\text{10}}^{\text{23}}$ ) number of molecules.

Conclusion

Mol is invented by chemists to have equality in molecular level.
