2 Abstract The purpose of this writing is to present the development of a hypothetical individual career plan for a prospective client. The client’s presenting issues and demographic information will be laid out. A career counseling theory will be applied to the client’s case and analyzed for effectiveness, supported with scholarly research. The client’s career assessment results will be presented and analyzed in order to identify recurring themes. Potential career possibilities will be identified and labor market information will be compared to these. Sets of long term and short term goals will be identified for the prospective hypothetical client to work towards. Strategies and interventions to accomplish these goals will be applied.
3 Individual Career Plan The purpose of this writing is to lay out a hypothetical individual career plan for a client presenting with career counseling needs. The selected client for this case is Sarah, a young woman seeking help in gaining full time employment. Sarah is seeking to find a job in her chosen career field of marketing. Sarah has been receiving services in career counseling throughout this course, and information gained through sessions and assessments will be utilized in order to complete her individual career plan. Client Profile The hypothetical client selected for this writing is Sarah. Sarah is a recent college graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Sarah presents currently unemployed, and experiencing frustration at the lack of success after many job interviews. She wishes to move out due to strain on her relationship with her parents while living with them and recently coming out as a lesbian. Sarah reports that her friends have noticed her seeming more “down” lately and she believes this is due to the tension with her parents. Sarah has a solid sense of her values and these are important to her during her employment journey. She has a strong cultural identity and aligns herself with the LGBT+ community. Sarah has shown very strong leadership skills, she participated in leadership on a national level for her university’s LGBT+ organization. She’s also shown the ambition to move into management during her career as responsibility and impact are important career aspects to her. The chosen theory applied is Holland’s Typology theory, which conveys that people express their personality through their career choices.
