1-2 Milestone One: Product Idea
American Airlines is an airline company that was founded almost 100 years ago. They
offer flights to over 350 locations domestically in the United States and more than 60 countries
internationally. AA has a deep history in the flight industry and has a prominent background in
diversity and inclusion. The flight company was the first major company to introduce loyalty
programs and airport lounges. American has business centers in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort
Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. with over
130,000 employees around the world (“American Airlines group,” n.d.).
American Airlines traded name is American Airlines Group Inc. and they trade on the
NASDAQ under AAL. American Airlines purpose is to “care for people on life’s journey”
(“American Airlines group,” n.d.). The company’s mission is to give everyone with the best
service and most extensive destination options in the industry.
AA markets themselves as more
than an airline. Their mission and values project an idea of flying people and creating journeys
rather than just transportation. They partner with other airlines and regional groups to expand
their brand. There are 21 other airlines that you can redeem AA miles with and three more than
you can earn miles for American with ("Partner airlines," n.d.). According to a J.D Power report
done in 2022, American Airlines ranks with in the top ten airlines for multiple categories
(Bloom, 2022).
The service I am introducing is a quiet section. It’s similar to how Amtrak and other
trains services have quiet cars, but elevated. Now, many people who travel would attest to
wanting quieter means. There are so many stories of people being upset about children on planes
and other people who can’t use their inside voices. The conversations around decorum in public
can go on forever. The bottom line is that there’s a solution. For those who need more peace or

feel they deserve more privacy, American Airlines will be introducing a “quiet car.” The section
of the plane will provide a space for those people who may need to sleep before a connecting
flight, get some work done before a deadline, or just want some space from others who are more
social. The quiet section would come at an extra cost just like how better seating anywhere on
the plane is.
When booking a seat on American Airlines there are basic economy seats that range from
$9 to $24 or standard economy fair offers some seats at no extra charge or an upgrade for $10-
$22 (Genter, 2023). American Airline offers a loyalty program called AAdvantage. The status
gives members preferred seating, among many other upgrades and perks depending on the level.
Regarding the quiet car, the offer would come at an elevated price closer to the main cabin
preferred range of $20+ on top of the price difference for the type of seat. The fee stands whether
a basic or standard ticket was purchased. For AAdvantage members, despite them receiving free
upgraded seating, the quiet car is a separate amenity. For loyalty members the price would be
decreased to $5-$10 depending on the exact status of their AAdvantage status. Gold and
Platinum would be a $5 fee; Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum would be $10 ("AAdvantage
status," n.d.). The other perks of their membership would apply in the quiet car as well and they
would still earn miles, but the point of the fees is to hopefully deter those who don’t require the
space for work or peace. American Airlines will offer an accommodation upgrade for people with
diagnosed sensory disorders such as autism, ADHD, OCD, or other developmental disorders
provided the policies of the quiet car can be upheld for the comfort of the other patrons. Those
who require the tickets for medical needs will be given priority access to them.

Recently through extensive R&D, our engineers have designed a new board that will revolutionize backcountry boarding for years to come. As the VP, you need to analyze and understand how to best market the company’s new innovation and craft a Marketing Plan. As you craft your plan, consider the iconic status of existing snowboards, and the lack of any recent radical innovations in the category, which pose major challenges in securing consumer adoption. If the company continues along the same distribution channels as their other board lines, Nitro potentially lacks the market penetration and sales that is forecasted for this new innovation. Launched in Chicago in 2016, Green Think has since expanded its operations worldwide, especially in Asia. It was a passion project by entrepreneur, Danny Park, who wanted to build a company that lays the foundation for young kids to pursue careers in STEM-based occupations (Science, technology, Engineering, Medicine).
Kids use the materials provided by the company to learn a concept code, build a robot from Green Think’s Lego-esque plastic components, and then apply the concept code to the build to make it perform certain functions. The franchise heavily emphasises its commitment to teaching young children the essential skills that will prepare them for an advanced career in the sciences.
Green Think franchises are available for purchase in a number of countries including Malaysia. Total investment is not too high at approximately US$50,000. This includes inventory costs, supplies, and training, which will be assisted by Green Think main office professionals.
