Chapter 11, Problem 11.45P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Whether the shape of the proeutectic phase affects the strength of eutectic alloys or not should be explained.

Concept Introduction:

When the melting and solidifying of same or homogeneous substances occur at a single temperature, then the system is known as the Eutectic system. The melting temperature of any single substance is greater than the eutectic temperature.

Eutectoids transformation occurs when a solution above the transformation point is available in the solid state instead of the liquid state.

The eutectic reaction is formed at the thermal equilibrium. Hence, it is also called Invariant reaction. By using Gibbs Energy is equal to zero equation, we can determine the temperature

Proeutectoid alloy:

In addition of the solid and liquid regions, before reachingthe eutectic temperature; the alloys which are on the left side (known as hypoeutectic) and on the right side (known as hypereutectic) form a new phase which is called as Proeutectoid Phase.
