Concept explainers
Interpretation: Each structure as primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols.
Conceptual Introduction:
Monohydric alcohols are been classified as:
1) Primary alcohol: The alcohols in which ---OH group is attached to a primary carbon atom are called primary alcohols.
Ex: (Propyl alcohol)
2) Secondary alcohols: The alcohols in which ---OH group is attached to a secondary carbon atom (two carbon atoms attached) are called secondary alcohols.
Ex: Butan-2-ol
3) Tertiary alcohols: The alcohols in which -OH group is attached to a tertiary carbon atom (three carbon atoms attached) are called tertiary alcohols.
Ex: 2-methylbutan-2-ol
