Chapter 14, Problem 12P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Explanation for the involvement of many genes in type 2 diabetes should be determined.
Concept introduction:
During diabetes, the blood sugar level rises much higher than the normal level. This is also termed as hyperglycemia. The main cause of it is improper functioning of insulin hormone present in the body. In such conditions, the pancreas is not able to form enough insulin to keep the blood glucose level low.

Crohn’s disease. Omega-3 fatty acids have been tested asa means to prevent relapse of Crohn’s disease. Two large, randomized, placebo-controlled studies have shown nosuch benefit from omega-3 fatty acids. Suppose you areasked to design an experiment to further study this claim.Imagine that you have collected data on Crohn’s relapsesin subjects who have used these omega-3 fatty acids and
similar subjects who have not used them and that you canmeasure incidences of relapse for these subjects. Statethe null and alternative hypotheses you would use in yourstudy.
Alpha polypeptide (ADH1A).
Give a detailed description of its role in the disease. Describe the impact of the disease on society.Describe a way in which your gene can be manipulated to treat the disease. Assume you can make any changes to the protein product and describe specifically how it will affect its interaction with other molecules.
