(a)
To explain: The list of enzymes involved in the lactate to glucose pathway.
Concept introduction: The glycolysis is the sequence of reactions that occurs in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In aerobic condition, one molecule of glucose breaks down into two molecules of pyruvate molecules with the net production of two ATP and two NADH. In anaerobic condition, the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) produces lactate is used as a precursor for gluconeogenesis. The production of lactate in the anaerobic condition of glycolysis is known as Cori cycle.
(b)
To determine: The net gain or loss of ATP for one round of the Cori cycle.
Concept introduction: The glycolysis is the sequence of reactions that occurs in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In aerobic condition, one molecule of glucose breaks down into two molecules of pyruvate molecules with the overall production of two ATP and two NADH. In anaerobic condition, the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) produces lactate is used as a precursor for gluconeogenesis. The production of lactate in the anaerobic condition of glycolysis is known as Cori cycle.
