Concept introduction:
The strength of the electrostatic attraction between ions with opposite charges is directly proportional to the magnitude of the charges on the ions and inversely proportional to the internuclear distance that is the size. For a period, the ionic size decrease going from left to right. Thus, cations of metals which are located to the right in the periodic table will attract the anions more strongly than the cations of metals located on the left.
