A process in which an egg fuses with a sperm to form a zygote which later grows into a fetus is called fertilization. An acrosomal reaction occurs in the sperm that allows it to enter into the corona radiata and zona pellucida. The secondary oocyte gives rise to a second polar body upon completing meiotic division.
