Chapter 20, Problem 5aCP
Summary Introduction
To review:
1. The effect of castration on the secretion of FSH and LH in males.
2. The experimental proof for the production of polypeptide by the testes inhibiting the secretion of FSH.
Introduction:
The testes in the males is comprised of two compartments namely- the seminiferous tubules and the interstitial tissue. The Leydig cells are located in the interstitial tissue and are responsible for the release of testosterone. Gonadotropins are the hormones that are secreted from the pituitary gland and these play an important part in various sexual characters.

- Describe the way in which the female hormones GnRH, FSH, LH, and oestrogen interact during the menstrual cycle to induce the ovulation and formation of the corpus luteum.arrow_forwardUnlike male gonadotropins, female gonadotropins are able to promote the development of a single optimal dominant follicle during most cycles with the release of a single gamete from an LH surge and then optimization of the uterine environment for implantation. To understand pathologies in this complex system, one must understand the ideal steps within the normal menstrual cycle. Which of the following statements best describes the role of FSH in menstruation? O FSH induces granulosa cell LH receptors within the dominant follicle.
