Addition polymer is the one in which the monomers simply add together with no other products formed apart from the polymer. The repeating unit in addition polymer often exceeds 100,000 and sometimes can exceed even a million.

When an unsaturated hydrocarbon undergoes polymerization, the product formed will have only carbon and hydrogen atoms in its structure. When an unsaturated hydrocarbon derivative undergoes polymerization, the product formed will have other atoms also along with carbon and hydrogen in it.
