Question
Chapter 24, Problem 18TYR
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Respiratory compensation: The pulmonary ventilation expels or retains carbon dioxide (CO2) in the body, and thereby it regulates the normal pH in the body fluid. In the case of excess level of CO2 (hypercapnia), the pulmonary ventilation expels more CO2 and maintains the normal pH of the blood. In the case of CO2 deficiency (hypocapnia), it promotes accumulation of CO2 and reduces the blood pH to normal.
