Concept Introduction:

HMG-CoA reductase is the rate controlling enzyme of mevalonate pathway which is the pathway for cholesterol and another isoprenoid biosynthesis. HGMR has eight domains and it is embedded in endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Today most of the cholesterol lowering drugs targets this enzyme. HMGR catalyzes the formation of mevalonic acid.
