Concept introduction:
Orotic aciduria is a disease caused due to the deficiency of UMP synthetase enzyme. The function of this enzyme is to convert orotic acid into UMP (uridine monophosphate). This means, inactivity of the enzyme results in a decreased ability of synthesis of pyrimidines.
