Concept introduction: Half-life or half-time of a substance or a matter is the time taken for the decomposition half of the substance that was initially present. The strong covalent bond of a glycosidic bond that joins a sugar molecule to bases makes them difficult to decompose; this leads them to have more of a half-life period.
