Introduction:

Hansen’s disease is commonly called leprosy. It is caused by Mycobacterium leprae (M. leprae). It causes loss of limb, disfigurement of fingers or toes, skin lesions, and deformed face. The incubation period of M. leprae is from 3 months to 20 years. M. leprae invades in the small nerves of the skin and multiply in peripheral nerves as well as in skin macrophages and leads to disablingdeformities.
