Liver is the primary organ that synthesizes glycogen from the excess blood glucose by the influence of hormone, insulin. This glycogen is broken-down into the glucose in post absorptive state by the influence of glucagon where the glucose level is depleted. The synthesis of glycogen in liver is referred as glycogenesis and breakdown of glycogen in liver is referred as glycogenolysis.
