The uterus is a part of the female reproductive system. It is a part of the pathway that transports sperm from the vagina to the uterine tube. It acts as the site for implantation of the fertilized ovum and provides support to the developing conceptus. The fetus is ejected from the body of the mother during parturition due to the strong contractions of the uterine myometrium.
