Chapter 26, Problem 1CYU
Summary Introduction
To review:
The differences between mitosis and meiotic division (keeping in mind that mitosis is similar to the second meiotic division).
Introduction:
Mitosis is the process during which the chromosomes are replicated and separated as two individual nuclei. During mitosis, the number of chromosomes or the ploidy level of chromosomes is maintained as the two cells produced are genetically identical. The cell cycle consists of another type of process known as meiosis, during which the ploidy level of the chromosomesgets reduced.

An important function of meiosis is to reduce the chromosome number to exactly half. How is this done? What makes such a process necessary?
From this point on, meiosis is very similar (but not exactly similar) to what happened in mitosis. How many copies of each type of chromosome end up in the daughter cells of meiosis when it is complete?
What do the chromosomes do in meiosis when they line up that is different from mitosis?
