Question
Chapter 26.6, Problem 2MQ
Summary Introduction
One gene encodes one protein, this mechanism occurs in most of the proteins. However, in immunoglobulins (with the heavy and light chains), this is not the case. This is because, in each individual the collection of antibodies should identify and bind a wide range of molecular structures, the immune system in order to produce limitless variation in antibody. Somatic recombination, hypermutation, and random heavy- and light-chain reassortment are diversity-generating mechanisms that contribute to the generation of unlimited diversity from the genes of immunoglobulins.
