Introduction: Law of segregation proposes that alternative forms of the genes that are known as alleles separate during the formation of gametes. These gametes get one of the alleles that constitute the gene. Thus, during the formation of the zygote, these independent gametes fuse together to provide the allele pair to the offspring.

Explanation of Solution

An allele represents two contrasting variants of a gene. For example, a gene controlling the plant height will have two forms of the genes/alleles, one allele will express tall character while the other allele will express dwarf character. The dominant trait is the one which masks the expression of the other allele (recessive). In plant height, the dominant allele is the one that express tallness and the recessive is the one that express dwarf nature of the plant.
