Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

Any objecttends to get pulled down toward earth due to the presence of Earth’s gravitational force.

Earth’s gravitational field (g = 9.8 m/s2) is a major factor to pull down any object towards Earth. Similarly, when one throws a softball, it reaches the maximum height gradually slowing down due to effect of earth gravity and finally attains zero velocity.

Conclusion:

Therefore, after the softball leaves the hand, it slows down and when it attains maximum height, its velocity will be zero.
