Introduction:
The thyroid gland is located in front of the throat and is similar in shape to a bowtie. In all vertebrates, it secretes the same hormones. The main hormones secreted by the thyroid gland are thyroxine and triiodothyronine. Both these hormones contain iodine in their structure. Therefore, iodine must be present in one’s diet for the production of thyroid hormones.
