Chapter 5.6, Problem 3CC
Summary Introduction

Mitochondria, hydrogenosomes, and chloroplast are three key energy-conserving organelles in the cell. Mitochondria are cylindrical structures and bound by two membranes. Some cells may contain a single mitochondrion and others may contain about 1000 mitochondria. Mitochondria are commonly known as the powerhouses of the cell. This is because metabolic processes like the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA cycle) and ATP generation (the major energy used in all life forms) take place in the mitochondria with the presence of oxygen.
