Summary Introduction
Eukaryotic ribosomes (80S) are larger when compared to bacterial as well as archaeal ribosomes (70S). Each 80S ribosome is a dimer, containing one 60S subunit and one 40S subunit. Eukaryotic ribosomes can be either attached to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) or found free in the cytoplasm. Both ER-bound ribosomes and free ribosomes are involved in protein synthesis.
