Introduction:
Proteoglycans are the molecules that have high carbohydrate content. These are either present on the surface of the cell or are secreted in the extracellular matrix. These molecules have GAG (glucosaminoglycans) chains, which are linked to the core proteins. The linkage formed between these two is the N- and O-glycosidic linkage.
Chondroitin sulfate is a sulfated-GAG having glucuronic acid and N-acetylgalactosamine as the alternating sugars present in the chain.
