In the manufacture of synthetic fiber, the fiber is often “set” by subjecting it to high temperatures. The object is to improve the shrinkage properties of the fiber. In a test of 23 yarn specimens, the relationship between temperature in °C (x) and shrinkage in % (y) was summarized by the least-squares line y = −12.789 + 0.133x. The total sum of square was ∑ni=1(yi−y⎯⎯)2∑i=1n(yi−y¯)2 = 57.313, and the estimated error variance was s2 = 0.0670. Compute the coefficient of determination r 2. Round the answer to three decimal places.
Sherry rents long boards. She records the height in cm and length of the board in cm that the customers rented. She notices a fairly linear relationship so she calculates a least squares regression equation for predicting board length from customer height:
y=1/3x+1/3
What is the residual of a customer with a height of 155 cm who rents a 51 cm board?
Elementary school students were given a geometry assignment. They were to measure the area of several rectangles and to measure the diagonal of the rectangle as shown in the table.
The equation of the least-squares regression line isŷ = 3.6 + 0.113x, where ŷ is the diagonal and x is the area of the rectangle. Which shows the residual plot?

The data are plotted with temperature, in degrees Fahrenheit (°F), as the explanatory variable and the number of ice bags sold that day as the response variable. The least squares regression (LSR) line for the data is =-114.05+2.17X. On one of the observed days, the temperature was 85 °F and 66 bags of ice were sold.
