Chapter 8.3, Problem 3MI
Summary Introduction

To fill:

The correct term according in the given blanks.

Introduction:

Cellular respiration is a metabolic process which takes place in all living cells. In the respiration, the respiratory substrate (glucose) is oxidized to produce ATP. Cellular respiration may be aerobic or anaerobic. Aerobic respiration occurs in presence of oxygen and yields 38 ATP from the oxidation of one glucose molecule whereas, anaerobic respiration occurs in absence of oxygen and yields only 2 ATP from the oxidation of one glucose molecule.

Answer to Problem 3MI

The given blanks can be filled as follows:

    S. no.Correct term
    1Anaerobic process
    2Glycolysis
    3Aerobic process
    4Kreb’s Cycle
    5Fermentation
    6Aerobic respiration

Explanation of Solution

Anaerobic processes are those processes that takes place in absence of oxygen.

Glycolysis is a series of chemical reaction, in which glucose in converted into pyruvate. It takes place in absence of oxygen and hence, it is an anaerobic process.

Aerobic process is a metabolic process that require oxygen.

Kreb’s Cycle is a series of aerobic reactions that generates NAD+ for glycolysis in the cells and also produces the ATP.

Aerobic respiration in eukaryotes are the process, which takes place in mitochondria of eukaryotes. It comprises of Kreb’s cycle and electron transport.
