Introduction:
The citric acid cycle is a biochemical pathway in which chemical energy present in the acetyl-CoA (coenzyme A) is released and hence, energy is produced. This pathway has eight reactions that occur in two phases. The precursor of acetyl CoA is pyruvate, which is a three carbon containing molecule derived from glucose by the process of glycolysis.
