Answer to Problem 4STP

The option C in the passage is a theory.

Explanation of Solution

The item A from the passage says, “why did that happen?” This does not explain the reason due to which raisin rises or sinks in the ginger ale but, it is a question which prompts student to do more experiments. The item B from the passage is that it is noticed that raisin neither sinks nor rise in the water. This is an observation because the rising and sinking pattern of the raisin is noticed. According to option (C), it is claimed that bubbles make the raisin rise thus, it is a theory as reason for rise in the raisin in the ginger ale is explained with this statement.

According to option (D), the reason due to which raisin sinks after rising to the ginger ale’s surface is wondered. This wondering allows the student to perform more experiments thus, it is not a theory.

Therefore, option C is correct.
