Chapter 1, Problem 7STP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The statement that a theory can be proved correct by performing the right experiment needs to be explained.

Concept Introduction:The scientific method is a systematic way of collecting evidence to support theories/concepts. This helps to explain the nature around us. In scientific disciplines, the term “model”, “observation”, “theory” and “law” holds different meanings of phenomena.

Answer to Problem 7STP

Theory can be proved to be correct when the right experiments are performed to prove it.

Explanation of Solution

A theory is a comprehensive explanation of the important features of nature that are supported by facts gathered over time. This allows the scientist to predict the unobserved phenomenon occurring in nature. One of the important portions of a theory is, that it must include statements supporting observational consequences.

An experiment is a way to test a hypothesis; where a hypothesis is a testable, tentative explanation for observations. Controlled, field and natural experiments are three main types of experiments.

For example, Gregor Mendel's theories were further confirmed or proved by T.H. Morgan with his biochemical explanation of Mendel's law.
