Chapter 14, Problem 10TYPSS
Summary Introduction
To review:
The genotypic constitution of the parents in the given case.
Introduction:
A genotype represents the genetic constitution of the individual organism. A recessive character is expressed only when the offspring has received the recessive allele from both the parents. In flies, small wings are recessive to normal wings. A cross between two flies produces 8 small wing offspring and 28 normal wing offspring. (Use S to represent the normal wing allele and s to represent the short wing allele.)

In flies, small wings are recessive to normal wings. If a cross between two flies produces 8 small-wing offspring and 28 normal-wing offspring, what are the most likely genotypes of the parents? (Use SS to represent the normal-wing allele and ss to represent the short-wing allele.)
In pea plants, flower color is determined by one gene with two alleles, with the allele coding for purple flowers (P) being dominant to the allele coding for white flowers (p). If two purple-flowered offspring resulting from a cross between homozygous dominant and white-flowered parents are crossed, what percentage of the progeny are expected to have the dominant phenotype?
In guinea pigs, the allele for short hair is dominant. If all the guinea pigs are born short haired what are the possible genotypes of the parents? (There are two possible combinations.) Show the answers with punnett square
