- A baseball attachment that helps people with mobility impairments play T-ball and baseball is powered by a spring that is unstretched at position 2. The spring is attached to a cord that is fastened to point B on the 75-mm radius pulley. The pulley is fixed at point O , rotates backwards to the cocked position at 0 , and the rope wraps around the pulley and stretches the spring with a stiffness of k = 2000 N/m. The combined mass moment of inertia of all the rotating components about point O is 0.40 kg·m2. The swing is timed perfectly to strike a 145-gram baseball travelling with a speed of V0 = 10 m/s at a distance of h = 0.7 m away from point O. Knowing that the coefficient of restitution between the bat and ball is 0.59, determine the velocity of the baseball immediately after the impact. Assume that the ball is travelling primarily in the horizontal plane and that its spin is negligible.arrow_forwardA 3 kg disk shown is pin supported at its center. The disk is rotated from rest and attains a constant angular velocity of 15 rad/s. If the mass of the rope is negligible and the radius of gyration of the drum is 50 mm; Find out the angular acceleration of the drum, the tension in the rope, and the torque experienced by the drum.arrow_forwardThe 80-mm-radius gear shown has a mass of 5 kg and a centroidal radius of gyration of 60 mm. The 4-kg rod AB is attached to the center of the gear and to a pin at B that slides freely in a vertical slot. Knowing that the system is released from rest when 0 = 60°, determine the velocity of the center of the gear when 0 = 20°.arrow_forward
- Bar BC weighs 161 lb and has a radius of gyration of mass with respect to a hor- izontal axis through G of 3.0 ft. The bar is supported by the cords AB and CD which rotate in the same vertical plane. The speed of the mass centre, when in the position shown, is 12 fps. Determine the tension in cables AB and CD for this position.arrow_forwardA band and block brake having 10 blocks, each of which subtends an angle of 14o at center, is applied todrum of effective diameter of 1 m. The brake drum and winding drum of crane mounted on the sameshaft weighs 20 kN and have combined radius of gyration of 300 mm. The two ends of the band areattached to the pin on opposite side of the fulcrum. If an effort of 300 N is applied at distance of 800mm from the fulcrum, find (i) Braking torque, (ii) the angular retardation of the brake, (iii) the timetaken by the system to come to rest from the rated speed of 400 rpm. Take coefficient of frictionbetween the drum and the block as 0.25.arrow_forwardA 3 kg disk shown is pin supported at its center. The disk is rotated from rest and attains a constant angular velocity of 15 rad/s. If the mass of the rope is negligible and the radius of gyration of the drum is 50 mm; Find out the angular acceleration of the drum and the tension in the rope.arrow_forward
- A 240-lb block is suspended from an inextensible cable which is wrapped around a drum of 1.25-ft radius rigidly attached to a flywheel. The drum and flywheel have a combined centroidal moment of intertia of 10.5 lb-ft-s^2. At the instant shown, the velocity of the block is 6 ft/s directed downward. The bearing at A as a frictional moment of 60 lb-ft. What is the kinetic energy of the system after the block moved after 4ft? (in ft-lb)arrow_forwardThe 4-kg rod AB is attached to a collar of negligible mass at A and to a flywheel at B. The flywheel has a mass of 16 kg and a radius of gyration of 180 mm. Knowing that in the position shown the angular velocity of the flywheel is 60 rpm clockwise, determine the velocity of the flywheel when point B is directly below C.arrow_forwardIt takes 10 min for a 2.4-Mg flywheel to coast to rest from an angular velocity of 300 rpm. Knowing that the radius of gyration of the flywheel is 1 m, determine the average magnitude of the couple due to kinetic friction in the bearing.arrow_forward
- In order to determine the mass moment of inertia of a flywheel of radius 600 mm, a 12-kg block is attached to a wire that is wrapped around the flywheel. The block is released and is observed to fall 3 m in 4.6 s. To eliminate bearing friction from the computation, a second block of mass 24 kg is used and is observed to fall 3 m in 3.1 s. Assuming that the moment of the couple due to friction remains constant, determine the mass moment of inertia of the flywheel.arrow_forwardEach paddle wheel of a steamer have a mass of 1600 kg and a radius of gyration of 1.2 meters. The steamer turns to port in a circle of 160 meters radius at 24 km/hr. The speed of the paddle is 90 rpm. Determine the magnitude and effect of the gyroscopic couple acting on the steamer.arrow_forwardA uniform disk of mass m = 4 kg and radius r = 150 mm is supported by a belt ABCD that is bolted to the disk at B and C. If the belt suddenly breaks at a point located between A and B, draw the FBD and KD for the disk immediately after the break.arrow_forward
